We’ve Been Nominated!

On the West Coast, they have the Oscars for those who have done good on the silver screen. I just recently learned that on the East Coast, we have the Sammies for those who have done good in federal government. The Sammies, also known as the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal, nominate federal employees for awards in seven categories, and then there’s also the “federal employee of the year.” (I suggest our friends in Hollywood start thinking about a “film industry worker of the year” category to keep up.) The Digitization Program Office’s 3D Lab team has been honored with a nomination in the Citizen Services category for Smithsonian X 3D, and our short nomination blurb eloquently states:

“Made iconic treasures from the Smithsonian’s vast collection accessible to students, teachers, historians and curious visitors everywhere through the use of computerized 3-D imaging and printing technologies.”

All of the nominations are worth checking out, and will go a long way towards restoring your pride in being a federal worker if you are one, or restoring your belief in the passion and commitment of your federal workers should you require such a tonic.

The Sammies will be awarded during a gala event in late September, conveniently bridging the late-summer and winter lull until the Oscars in late February. (If you are a fashion designer, and would like us to strut your stuff, please don’t be shy about getting in touch.)
